As daily temperatures rise and air conditioning units run longer hours, we are gradually placing more demand on our fragile power grid. With the arrival of the electric car, this demand is increasing at an alarming rate forcing our power transmission lines and power plants to work harder to maintain a stable power grid.
Weather related storms are increasingly becoming more frequent, violent, an destructive. It is not uncommon for these devastating storms to leave millions of households and business in the dark for prolonged periods of time, causing millions of dollars in business losses, and much inconvenience and consternation among U.S households and families.
Enemy foreign nationals and nation-states actors also wish us harm. Hackers are constantly probing the weaknesses of our power generation and transmission infrastructure. According to DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Project Agency), a Pentagon think tank, it is not if, but when one of these actors will attack our critical power distribution and production infrastructure. These hackers will attack and infiltrate system video monitors, transmission switches, substation circuit breakers, communication systems, and power transmission infrastructure. These cyberattacks can be sustained, even as the power plant operators are fixing the existing damage in one area, the hackers could be simultaneously breaking other areas or aspects of this delicate infrastructure. Power plant operators could be fixing problems for weeks, in the meantime chaos ensues.

A Generac generator sale ought not to be taken lightly. There are several factors involved in the decision making process, so that the generator can be successfully installed. Here are some of the factors that may be taken under consideration:
1. Amount of power needed.
2. Area or space available for the installation.
3. Availability of a fuel source.
4. Type of existing electrical service.
5. Permitting and inspections.
6. Budget
Let's analyze these different points individually:
1. Amount Of Power Needed
Generally the highest individual consumer of energy in a typical household is the Air Conditioning unit and the Air Handler. The technician or consultant analyzing your power load will take this particular load under consideration. He or She also will account for the size of the home or building in square feet. In addition, factors such as number of appliances, pool pump, pool heater, well, water heater and other appliances will be accounted for. All these loads will be added together with a special formula, and the total connected load will be determined. As this total connected load becomes known, the size of the generator can be determined.
2. Area Or Space Available For The Installation
This is a a critical parameter of the installation, as there are some strict zoning, electrical, and mechanical codes that need to be observed in order to perform an installation.
The generator must be installed above first floor elevation in most instances, this is done to safeguard against flooding. It also needs to stay at least five feet from any door or window. In most installations, the generator shall be separated from the outside wall by at least eighteen inches, only if the outside wall is a non-combustible wall, otherwise it will be five feet of separation.
If an underground propane tank will be installed, this tank shall be at least ten feet away from the building, and at least ten feet away from the generator and any other source of ignition such as an air conditioning unit. The propane tank normally cannot be closer than six feet to the property line.
In order to install the generator, there shall be at least fourteen linear feet between the building and the property tank.
In order to install the underground propane tank, there shall be twenty linear feet between the building and the property line.
3. Fuel Source Availability
A Generac generator needs fuel to operate. In some applications, there is an existing natural gas meter, and the generator can be connected to it. If there is not a fuel source at the property, a propane tank must be installed at the property in order to provide fuel to the generator.
Normally a propane tank is buried will be buried at the property and connected to the generator via a fuel line.
4. Type Of Existing Electrical Service
What is the electrical service?
The main electrical panel, main disconnect, and electrical meter are parts of the electrical service. All these components will need to be modified by the generator installation. The generator is normally managed by the transfer switch. The transfer switch is inserted into the electrical service between the electrical meter and the main electrical panel. In order to perform this task, the building needs to be disconnected temporarily from the utility company, which will disconnect power to the building for a period of time. Normally this does not take longer than eight hours. The transfer switch is inserted into the electrical service, and will become part of the electrical service itself.
This particular installation, is an important aspect of the overall project. The configuration of the existing electrical service will have a high impact on the installation schedule. If the existing service is outdated or obsolete, it may have to be upgraded before attempting to install the generator. Be aware that during this specific process, the electrical inspector and the utility company will be involved, as the inspector may have to approve our work and the utility company needs to come to disconnect and reconnect the electrical service.
5. Permitting And Inspection
Permitting and inspections are normal aspects of a Generac generator installation project. The installation cannot start completely until all permits are approved. Permits may take several weeks to several months to be approved, oftentimes delaying the Generac generator installation schedule.
6. Budget
Installing a Generac generator is time consuming and requires many different skills. An electrician, a plumber, and a generator technician are necessary to bring the installation to a successful completion. Fortunately, our company has all the electrical licenses, gas licenses, propane licenses, and the certification from all major U.S manufacturers to completely install, program, and start a Generac generator.
The budget for a complete installation normally is calculated based on the items one through five listed above. Once a technician has gathered all this information, a quote can be generated. This quote can then be compared with your budget.
Important Note:
If a budget is not sufficient to install the automatic Generac generator, we can always opt for a portable generator. These generators can be connected to the entire electrical circuits, so that your house will will correctly under a power outage. Even your air conditioning system will be working, usually for less than half the cost of an automatic Generac standby generator.

A Generac generator installation usually starts with a generator installation permit. These permits are one of the most difficult ones to obtain, and generally take several weeks, and sometimes several months to be approved.
Once the permit is approved, our company proceeds to place the generator on its predetermined location, and we continue to install the propane tank underground. If the property has a natural gas meter, we then connect the generator to the existing natural gas meter by installing a new natural gas fuel line to the generator.
We then continue with the rest of the electrical installation and move forward to the project inspection.

The installation of the propane tank is one of the most difficult and time consuming aspects of a typical generator installation project.
Generally it is best practice to install at least a 500 gallon propane tank for Generac generator installations. With a generator rated at 24 KW or less, usually a 500 gallon propane tank can last more than one week.
Installati0n of a propane tank requires space on the side yard or the front yard of the property. A propane tank needs to be located no less than ten feet from the exterior wall of a house or building. It needs to stay away ten feet from any source of ignition and ten feet from any adjacent property. In addition, as a propane tank needs to be refilled from time to time, it needs to be located less than one hundred feet from the street, as most propane delivery trucks can only reach one hundred feet with their hoses. In practice, most propane tanks are located in the front yard of the property, where they can be buried.

Sometimes the budget for a standby generator installation is just not there. A portable generator installation is a great replacement for a standby Generac generator installation as it can power up an entire house just the same way as a standby generator. It can do most things a standby generator does, but at less than half the cost of a regular standby generator installation.
We alter the main electrical panel in a way that it can accept the connection from a portable generator and power up the entire house, including your air conditioning, without all the messy and dangerous extension cords all over the house. We install a special outlet, which connects to the generator and the electrical panel and therefore transfer all the energy from the generator to the house via this specially constructed cord set via the main electrical panel.
